Handel in London – A Royal Celebration CD

Recording project of EUBO & Choir of Clare College, Cambridge

The European Union Baroque Orchestra joined forces with the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, to perform six concerts in different European countries with EUBO’s Music Director, Danish harpsichordist Lars Ulrik Mortensen. The final concert of this touring project took place on Tuesday 3 September 2013 in St John’s Smith Square, London, where EUBO has been appointed an Associate Artist. A crowd-funding campaign was launched to raise funding to record this concert live for CD. The recording was released in December 2013. Read reviews of the CD release Peace & Celebration

“Handel in London – A Royal Celebration” CD
music by George Frideric Handel (1685-1759):

  • 4 Coronation Anthems HWV258-261 (incl. Zadok the Priest)
  • Birthday Ode for Queen Anne HWV74
  • Concerto Grosso Op 3 No 2 HWV313

The spectacular Coronation Anthems were written in 1727 for the coronation of King George II and have been performed at all British coronations ever since. The aria Eternal Source of Light Divine, which is one of the most beautiful baroque arias ever written, opens the Birthday Ode for Queen Anne which was composed 300 years ago in 1713.
