The European Union Baroque Orchestra is a regular visitor to Kloster Michaelstein, a centre of excellence in the field of early music situated in the Harz region of Germany.
Having first performed in Michaelstein in 1990 with directors Roy Goodman and Jaap ter Linden, EUBO has returned regularly and now enjoys an annual residency in the Kloster, working to prepare a new programme and give a concert in the Musikscheune before setting off on a European tour.

In 2016 EUBO was joined by three young and talented musicians of the Bachs Erben Jugendbarockorchester to rehearse and perform under the direction of violinist Margaret Faultless a programme of works written as forms of composition for the orchestra were developing in the 17th century. In 2015 EUBO returned to Michaelstein for a residency which culminated in a performance under the inspirational leadership of Lars Ulrik Mortensen. The concert took place in the new concert hall ‘Musikscheune’ on Friday 6 November 2015.
In 2014 EUBO rehearsed and performed under the direction of violinist Rachel Podger concertos for multiple string instruments – partly to give some of the players an opportunity to shine soloistically, but also because of the compelling differences created by juxtaposing solo and ensemble textures. The concert featured a selection of exciting baroque music – 10 October 2014
In 2013 EUBO rehearsed in Michaelstein from 4 to 8 October withGottfried von der Goltz (Freiburger Barockorchester). The inspiring concert programme was based around the central figure of superstar violinist Pisendel and his amazing circle of friends and colleagues, such as Zelenka, Telemann and Vivaldi, who composed and performed for the Court in Dresden.
EUBO’s 2012 residency took place from 5 to 9 November (concert 1930 hrs on 9 November) with Lars Ulrik Mortensen. The Orchestra rehearsed and performed a programme of music by Muffat, Handel and Corelli at Kloster Michaelstein, before going on to give concerts in Spain and Bulgaria.
