An excellent orchestra that deserves support.

EUBO has given some of the most energetic and stylish concerts of baroque orchestral repertory at the York Early Music Christmas Festival. Every year the standard has been excellent, despite the turn-over of members, with everyone appearing to communicate their joy in playing. And it has been interesting to watch individual members ‘graduate’ to play in other orchestras and ensembles.

I have had fantastic coaching, support and musical experiences through EUBO and would wish for all young period players to have a chance to experience the same.

The EUBO defined me as a musician. The training, support and connections I made as a member prepared me to be a successful musician. Without EUBO I would not be where I am today.

The work of EUBO is crucial to the development and survival of period playing at the highest level. EUBO encourages young players at the start of their careers in what is a fast growing market in the UK, Europe and beyond. Many of the stars of baroque performance today themselves benefitted from EUBO’s support as they began their careers, including violinist Rachel Podger.

It is essential to support the continuation of this wonderful Baroque music, which needs funding otherwise children will grow up never having the chance to hear it.

Beyond the high musical contribution, bringing together young musicians from so many different European countries adds a unique cohesive value.

Europe’s common culture, which binds us together, is expressed most clearly in music, the most fundamental form of art. The opportunity for brilliant young musicians from all backgrounds to come together from across our family of nations, work together and learn together at such an early stage in their careers is vital for breaking down boundaries, countering rising nationalism and demonstrating shared values.
